Google has become the latest major technology company to remove diversity, equality and Involvement Initiatives (Dei) in the wake of President Donald Trump’s attacks against such programs.
As reported for the first time by Wall Street Journal, Google informed on Wednesday that they are abandoning employment objectives aiming to increase the recruitment of workers from the under -represented groups. In an internal email, Google’s HR chief Fiona Cicconi stated that the company would no longer aim to improve diverse representation in its labor force, and will reassess its Dei programs.
Google deletes the policy against the use of it for weapons or supervision
“[I]In 2020, we set up aspiration goals and focused on the growth of our offices outside California and New York to improve representation, “Cicconi wrote, as separated from Verge.” We will continue to invest in countries across the US – and in many countries globally – but in the future we will no longer have aspiration goals. “
Cicconi stated that his employee resource groups would remain. However, it seems that Google is eliminating any mention of diversity, equality or inclusion.
Last week, Google’s “belonging” website clearly stated that it was taking “target action” to address “disability inclusion”, “gender equality”, “LGBTQ+involvement”, “racial equality “, and” inclusion of veterans “. She also presented a quote from the leading diversity official Melonie Parker, saying, “Building belonging to everyone means ensuring that no one is left out and each person can flourish.”
The speed of baked light
The site is now updated to remove any mention of the “main issues of” Google, replacing them with general, unclear promises to “better reflect billions of people using our products” and “[build] A Google for all of us to build useful products for everyone. “
“To build products that help billions of people achieve their goals, we are uniting talented people from everywhere and by empowering them to do their best job,” says the new quote from Parker. While Parker is still listed as the main diversity official on her LinkedIn profile, Google now calls it “VP, people’s operations”, and has removed its pronouns.

“I want to be clear: we’ve always been committed to creating a job where we hire the best people wherever we operate, we create an environment where everyone can bloom and treat everyone in the way Right, ”Cicconi said in her memorandum for Google employees.
“Yeardo year, we review the programs created to help us get there and make changes. And because we are a federal contractor, our teams are also evaluating changes in our required programs to respect the latest court decisions and US executive orders on the subject. “
Trump has worked aggressively to dismantle Dei programs since taking office on January 20, signing an executive order completing all the Federal Programs Dei in one of his first acts as president. Google is technically not forced to pursue Trump’s anti-dei order, as it is not a US government entity. Despite, it looks like the technology giant is hoping to win together will win that good grace of Trump – as well as help it maintain its profitable government contracts. Earlier this week it was reported that Google deleted its promise not to use it for weapons or supervision.
Google Alphabet’s parent company also eliminated any mention of diversity, net capital or involvement from its annual report to the Insurance and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday. Guardian reports that prior to this, the annual SEC records of the alphabet had regularly claimed that he was “devoted to diversity, capital and involvement of everything we do and to increase a labor force that is representative of the users we serve” that from 2021.
“We are committed to creating a job where all our employees can succeed and have equal opportunities, and over the past year we have reviewed our programs created to help us get there,” Google said a statement about Mashable. “We have updated our [SEC report’s] Language to reflect this, and as a federal contractor, our teams are also assessing the changes required following recent court decisions and executive orders on the subject. “
The Google’s decision follows similar measures in Meta and Amazon, with both Dei programs in Trump’s inauguration.
