A Nassau District Army veteran has turned a hobby he learned online while placing it in dollars and aromas with a new candle store that is illuminating Long Island and providing a Valentine’s Day activity for couples.
“I want to lead for example,” told Alex Moffatt, the owner of Candle de Lite Baldwin. “For people to believe in you, you have to put in work, show that you can do it and say the other person,” I can do it too. “”
Moffatt struck the game in his candle career in 2021, when he and his wife were looking for something to do before he had to be sent to Saudi Arabia and decided to take a class in old -time art.
“My wife and I had to travel to New Jersey … When we got there, to say at least, it wasn’t for my expectations,” he recalled. “I knew I could do a better job.”
While abroad next year, Moffatt dedicated almost all his free time to teach ins and outsiders of making candles through what he called “University on YouTube”.
He learned enough for this since he returned home, he was able to make the dream a reality and open his store in 2023.
The aromatic shop of the store, which operates in the afternoon and late evenings, is decorated with chandeliers and lines designer candles in Merrick Road in the south coast town.
Among the offers in the store are the class of creating byb candles for couples and private events for groups.
The intention of the sergeant is to give the Long Islanders more things to do – especially in the cold weather months.
“They got all the film theaters, the only thing you can really do is Bowling,” said Moffatt, who has a passion for candles and incense.
During the day, the owner works at the technical end for Verizon Fios and is taking business lessons at the Nassau Community College in certain evenings. Moffatt decided to follow his first rank to set a good example to his teenage twin daughters.
“They gave me a little shock and said,” Dad, you are successful and do not have a degree. I said, ‘You know what? You’re right. So the next day I went to enroll in school. “
A hot reputation
Candle de Lite’s local importance was heated with a little help from the morning show “The Club Club” after cold moffatt with cold calls Charlemagne said God, DJ Envy and Jess Hillaus in the air in late 2023.
“One day on my way to Verizon, I just got the idea to call nowhere, and they actually allowed me,” Moffatt recalled. “I told Charlmange that I own a candle store and I would like to bring you all a few candles … He said,” Yes, bring. “
That night, Moffatt jumped into his shop and drafted as many candles for the trio.
“The next morning, I woke up at 4:00 am and went and sat down to that parking place and waited to get inside. Charlemagne liked it and told me to bring more.”
Since spreading the word, Moffatt has seen a spark of reliable growth and some repeated customers. He said clients often love the candles they make so much that they don’t want to burn them and ultimately buy a second.
Candle de Lite offers a Special Valentine’s Day class for $ 60 per person, including a bottle of compliments wine.
“I like to be affordable,” Moffatt said. “When you come in, I want people to feel warm and calm and know they are safe and will have a good time.”
